Slipstream Description
Slipstream is an arcade retro racing game, drawing inspiration from classics such as Outrun and Lotus. Thanks to a successful campaign on Kickstarter, the game was released on PC in 2016 by andor.
Mechanics
In Slipstream we play the role of a driver who takes part in races and tries to drive through the designated routes in the shortest time possible. There are 20 of them available, and each has a unique style. We have, among others, desert areas, a city centre or seaside roads at sunset. We drive on them with one of the five available car models, which differ not only in appearance, but also in specs.
Game modes
The game has six variants of single player mode. Grand Tour - where we have to go through the connected routes in time, competing with our opponents at the same time; Cannonball - free ride mode with a choice of route, number of opponents and vehicles appearing on the road; classic single race mode; time challenge; finally, there are Battle Royale and Grand Prix, where we fight for four golden cups. Slipstream also features a local multiplayer mode for up to four players with four available modes - Cannonball, Battle Royale, Grand Prix and Single Race.
The creators have also added a ranking for the fastest players, available only on Steam.
Technical aspects
Slipstream's visuals refer to retro climates from the turn of the 80's and 90's. Colourful and pixellated graphics were created using the pseudo3D engine, imitating the style of old arcade machine games. In the game there is also an option to use CRT, NTSC and other filters to deepen this experience. The soundtrack, in turn, features 9 original pieces, where we will often hear the sounds of a synthesizer, so characteristic for the 1980s.
