Smalland is a creative survival game developed by the independent Turkish Embu Games. It was developed with the PC in mind.
Smalland's protagonist is a regular man, shrunken to a tiny size in unexplained circumstances. He wakes up in the forest, not knowing whether he's the only one to suffer that fate. With many questions, the protagonist starts his search for answers and a struggle to survive in this new, inhospitable world.
Smalland on the PC makes use of the first-person (FPP) perspective. Its survival elements are present due to the playable characters's size. The players traverse a vast forest and learn about its ecosystem - the wildlife poses a serious threat, as they can hunt the protagonist and steal his resources. Rather than wolves, bears and other predators, we'll face squirrels, rabbits and ants, which are either much larger than the protagonist or can ruin his hard work.
During our adventure we must acquire food, resources to craft tools, weapons and to build a hideout. Even after creating a shelter we must stay vigilant - even mild drizzle can be dangerous, with water droplets being large enough to hurt us, while heavy rainfall becomes an unstoppable flood; the wind is yet another threat, capable of blowing away our shelter if we build it in a wrong place.
Though Smalland is playable from start to finish in singleplayer, the game also includes extensive co-op for up to eight people at once.
The 3D visuals of Smalland are of very high quality. The artstyle and rich color palette make both the world's fauna and flora appealing. The game's soundtrack creates the feeling of great adventure.
