Soccer Story is an arcade RPG with elements of a soccer game. The action takes place in a world with fantasy elements, where soccer games have been banned and it falls on our shoulders to save the sport.
Soccer Story is a sports RPG. The project was developed by Panic Barn studio, the authors of the Not Tonight series.
The action takes place in the near future, when a mysterious catastrophe caused the end of soccer games. Since then, the powerful organization Soccer Inc. makes sure that no one is able to even look at a ball, let alone play it.
We play the role of the boy (or girl) whom the Magical Soccer Ball chooses to be the Savior of Soccer. We will have to save our favorite sport and restore harmony in the world of sports.
Soccer Story combines elements of an RPG and a soccer game. We explore a large world with an open structure, complete tasks and develop our character.
Most of the challenges are in the form of arcade soccer competitions. Some of them are traditional matches between two teams, during which we have to face teams of sharks, ninja warriors or old men, among others. Other missions require clever use of the ball in completing sports challenges or solving puzzles.
The fun is enriched by numerous mini-games, which completely change the mechanisms of play and transform the game into, for example, a turn-based RPG.
Soccer Story offers a single-player story campaign sufficient for about 15 hours. A local multiplayer mode for up to four players is also available.
The game has nice graphics, done in a full-color retro style, where the environments are 3D objects, while the characters are pixelated sprites.

Game Ratings for Soccer Story Video Game.
Checkpoint Gaming: 6 / 10 by Tom Quirk
I really wanted to like Soccer Story more than I did by the end. Its quirky, soccer-filled dialogue and setting is really charming, and I had a blast kicking my soccer ball everywhere to uncover secrets. However, in trying to craft a puzzle-RPG and soccer game hybrid, Soccer Story doesn't really succeed in either side of that equation. Zelda fans will probably be turned off by the reliance on fetch quests and simplistic puzzles. Soccer Story's lack of intricate team management or diverse match types probably won't appeal much to soccer game aficionados either. Soccer Story is a decent enough experience, however it is held back by the lack of a strong gameplay foundation and annoying technical issues, which may at least be ironed out in the future.
PlayStation Universe: 5.5 / 10 by Neil Bolt
The idea of Soccer Story is good on paper, but as the saying goes, the best teams don't play on paper. A cutesy, goofy facade can't mask the messy, frustrating game underneath.
Push Square: 5 / 10 by Sammy Barker
But ultimately, this game misses the target. If you’re itching for some footie amid the World Cup, and you absolutely can’t stand sims like FIFA 23, we suppose you might eke some mileage out of it. Otherwise, leave this one on the bench where it belongs.
