Star Trek is the work of a Canadian studio Digital Extremes, the authors of such titles as Unreal Tournament, Dark Sector, and The Darkness 2. Game developers decided to fill the gap between the two movies: Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek 2 (2012), while expanding their storyline with new elements. Marianne Krawczyk (God of War writer) as well as Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman (co-authors of the original movies), among others, were involved in the production of Star Trek.
In Star Trek game you follow two characters - James T. Kirk and Spock - in their new dangerous adventure. The captain of the USS Enterprise receives a call for help from a certain station. This way, Kirk and Spock find out of an intergalactic intrigue concerning a mysterious Gorn race, who intend to launch an invasion on the federation planets. To prevent the unfolding events, heroes are ready to blow up anything on their way.
The adaptation of a refreshed edition of the Star Trek universe follows the style of JJ Abrams films. Thus, it is an action game with covers system and character development. It is noteworthy that each of the heroes has a bit different abilities. Kirk uses a weapon that is able to stun opponents, whereas Spock can freeze them. Moreover, Kirk concentrates on shooting, while his colleague can also sneak up and quietly eliminate opponents.
Gameplay in Star Trek was designed for co-op play. Players can play as either Kirk or Spock in order to confront the dangers threatening the galaxy together. It is worth noting that the game contains a few scenes taken out directly from the movies, including the spectacular transitions between different parts of the ship or of a station.
