Star Wars: Outlaws – Wild Card is the first story expansion for the open-world action-adventure game released in August 2024, made by Ubisoft Massive.

Lando Calrissian, sabacc and Morenia

The story in the Wild Card expansion begins when Kay Vess (the main character of Star Wars: Outlaws) is hired to infiltrate a high-stakes Sabacc card game tournament (Sabacc functioned in the base game as a mini-game). Once there, she learns that the tournament is about more than just money, having met the gambler Lando Calrissian, a friend of Han Solo from the original Star Wars film trilogy (from the movie The Empire Strikes Back).

To unlock the expansion, it is necessary to first complete the side task from the "base game", in which Kay meets Lando.

The main pros of the game

  • Engaging Storyline: Users enjoyed the fun and intriguing storyline, particularly the interactions with Lando Calrissian.
  • Visuals and Atmosphere: The new locations, especially the casino ship, were praised for their beautiful design and engaging atmosphere.
  • Gameplay Variety: The DLC offers a mix of mission types, including infiltration, combat, and a Sabaac tournament, which added variety to the gameplay.
  • Achievements: The inclusion of achievements was noted as a positive aspect for completionists.
  • Integration with Base Game: Many users appreciated how seamlessly the DLC integrates with the main game, providing a natural extension of the story.

The main cons of the game

  • Short Playtime: The DLC is criticized for being too short, with many players completing it in 3 to 6 hours, which they felt was not worth the full price.
  • Limited Sabaac Gameplay: Despite being centered around a Sabaac tournament, players felt that the actual gameplay of Sabaac was minimal and not as engaging as they had hoped.
  • Reused Locations: Some reviews pointed out that the DLC revisits old locations rather than introducing enough new content, which detracted from the overall experience.
  • Voice Acting: The voice acting for Lando received mixed reviews, with some players feeling it did not capture the character's essence.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • More Extensive Sabaac Gameplay: Players expected more opportunities to play Sabaac beyond the main tournament, which they found lacking.
  • Longer Content: Many users expressed a desire for the DLC to provide more content, ideally matching the length of the main game, as they felt the current offering was insufficient for the price.
  • Permanent Access to New Locations: The inability to revisit the casino ship or other new areas after completing the DLC was seen as a missed opportunity for further exploration and gameplay.
  • New Weapons or Factions: Players noted the absence of new weapons or factions, which could have added depth to the gameplay experience.

Summary

  • Overall, while the Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card DLC has its strengths, particularly in storytelling and atmosphere, its shortcomings in length and gameplay depth led many users to recommend waiting for a sale before purchasing.
