Release Date: March 16, 2026
A boomer shooter from the creators of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, based on the Starship Troopers movie license. In Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!, we assume the role of a recruit who, as part of a training simulation, tries to prevent an arachnid invasion on human colonies.
Although the Auroch Digital studio has been around since 2010, it had to wait 13 years for its first true hit. It was the boomer shooter-style game, titled Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. Its success not only allowed the team to gain momentum but also brought them recognition. Over time, they took on the task of adapting another iconic brand. This refers to Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! - an old-school shooter based on the science fiction film license.
In Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!, the action is viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP). The core of the gameplay is the extermination of arachnid hordes, which we kill primarily using firearms, filling them with lead, dismembering, and setting them on fire. The cosmic adventure takes us through various locations, from wastelands to human settlements.
In Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! we play as a recruit who hones their skills by playing the titular production. It is the work of the fictional studio FedDev, funded by the United Citizen Federation with the aim of developing an army ready to face cosmic threats.
As part of a training simulation, under the command of General Johnny Rico, our recruit takes control of Major Samantha "Sammy" Dietz and faces hordes of arachnids that have left their home planet Klendathu and spread across the cosmos, invading human-colonized worlds. It's up to us to stop their invasion before it's too late.
Similar to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, the graphics of Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! are designed in a style reminiscent of shooters from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Game Ratings for Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! Video Game.
Gamer Social Club: 7.5 / 10 by Sean "KingOTheCask" Richards
I had noted in my preview that Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! was not going to revolutionize the gaming world and that I was fine with that. Now that I have completed the game, I can safely say that while my opinion hasn’t changed, I do appreciate more of what this game had to offer. The one-liners, the comical levels of violence, and the retro vibes that are creeping back into the gaming industry (which I love). Its only weaknesses lie in the lack of needing some of the extra bells and whistles within the game itself.
Completexbox: 80 / 100 by Dan Boise
The game looks great and surprisingly combines two visual styles. While levels are vast 3D environments reminiscent of later boomer shooters from the late 90s/early 2000s, enemies and NPCs are 2D 16-bit pixelated characters. It works given the non serious tone of the game. Between missions, you’ll be treated to movie like cutscenes featuring General Johnny Rico and Major Samantha “Sammy” Dietz along with others characters looking to “recruit” you. On the audio side of things, nothing major to report. The soundtrack is minimal lost through the banter of your colleagues. Speaking of which, it’s enjoyable with a bit of humor. The game does have a few nuisance. The first one being the repetitiveness of the objectives. It often feels like you’re doing the same thing in different levels. Another issue is the lack of vehicles. While the maps aren’t that huge, running/walking from one objective to another is tedious and boring. Thankfully, with a mech, you’ll go a bit faster.
Gert Lush Gaming: 8.8 / 10 by Jim Smale
It’s been a long time since I finished a game and then immediately went back to play it again. Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! is totally sorted and a massive win for fans of the flick. The pixel art is proper boss, and even though the lack of multiplayer is a bit rubbish, the carnage on offer is top-tier. Playing as a bug is a godsend for the motion sickness, and the whole thing is just brilliant fun. You’d be a total melon to miss this one. Get it bought!
