Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization for PC, PS4 and PSV is a Japanese action role-playing game by Aquria, the creators of e.g. Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. The game is based on the Sword Art Online franchise, which started with a series of books by Reki Kawahara, later adapted into animated series, comics and many other games.

Plot

The franchise features a vision of Japan in the near future, where virtual reality MMORPGs are wildly popular. The story of Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization takes place inside one of such games, called Sword Art: Origin, which gained popularity after a group of players was trapped in it, and their death in the virtual world or any attempt to remove the VR helmet ended in the player's brain boiling, killing them as a result.

During the story campaign you play as Kirito. He decides to use a new version of the program, devoid of the life-threatening code. He encounters many characters from the novels and the anime, such as Klein, Asuna and Sinon. The game also features new characters. The story was co-created by the original author of the books.

Mechanics

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization for PC, PS4 and PSV is an action role-playing game utilizing a third person veiw, and the gameplay consists mostly of exploring, completing quests, leveling up characters, and heavily arcade-like combat. In the singleplayer mode, you are accompanied by three teammates, who can be issues simple orders.

Although Kirito is the game's protagonist, you can customize his appearance, and even create your own characters. It's a very useful option, since apart from the story campaign, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization also features an online co-op mode for up to four players. Interestingly, even in this mode you have four AI companions.
