Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop was a game released in 2005, in which we could show off as caretakers of shops managed by the titular Tamagotchi. Over the years, this game has had two sequels, and in time - a successor in the form of the production described here. We're talking about Tamagotchi Plaza, an adventure game developed and released by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Gameplay

In Tamagotchi Plaza we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).

Prince's task

During the game, we take on the role of one of the titular creatures called Tamagotchi and we end up in Tamahiko Town on Tamagotchi Planet. Given that the town was nominated to host the festival, its prince appointed us to take care of the shops located in it and to make efforts to win.

Taking care of the stores

We explore Tamagotchi Town and get to know its inhabitants, and above all - we visit local shops and places providing other services, which we need to take care of. The available shops include a dentist treating the teeth of residents, an optometrist selecting glasses for anyone in need, a tailor dressing creatures, or even Afternoon Tea, where anyone interested can get tableware.

Minigames, residents and their problems

Visiting each of these places means the possibility of playing a mini-game related to its activity. The game allows us to try our hand at things like treating cavities or sewing clothes. As progress is made, the reputation of individual places increases, allowing them to develop and gain access to increasingly diverse orders.

Worth Playing: 5 / 10 by Cody Medellin

In the end, Tamagotchi World is fine, provided you're willing to live with a number of caveats. The premise is fine, as is the implementation of the jobs in minigame form. The lack of tutorials is odd considering the young age of the intended audience. Additionally, the slow, grindy nature of the game can only keep you occupied for so long before the whole thing becomes boring, especially since there's nothing else to do besides these minigame jobs. If you're a fan of Tamagotchis, then this may be amusing for a short while, but everyone else looking for a solid set of minigames would be better served playing a number of other similar titles from the original Switch library.

Tamagotchi Plaza isn’t necessarily bad, but I think it is more for kids or someone who really loves Bandai Namco’s virtual pets.
