The Adventure Pals is a 2D action-adventure game inspired by such productions as Zelda 2, Adventure Time, Castle Crashers and Banjo-Kazooie. It focuses on exploration and features a fairy-tale-eqsque atmosphere. The game was developed by Massive Monster.

Plot

You play as a little boy, accompanied by a giraffe and… a friendly stone. The boy tries to save his father from a terrible fate—being turned into a hot-dog.

Mechanics

The game utilizes a side view perspective, most of the time a side-scroll one, although sometimes you can move in other directions than left and right. When exploring the in-game world, you jump on platforms, gather items, and fight enemies, including large bosses that can take up a big part of the screen. Your companions, the giraffe and the stone, have special abilities supporting you during combat and exploration. There are five locations in the game, each with unique quests and atmosphere.

The Adventure Pals features a single player mode and a local co-op multiplayer mode.

Technical aspects

The Adventure Pals features 2D visuals, resembling a picture books for children. It's rich with vibrant and pastel colors, and the character designs are amusing and nicely done. The visual style of the production is pleasing to the eye.
