Surviving in the wilderness for weeks on end is a mission that only a few can afford. Others, however, can experience a substitute for the emotions involved by reaching for video games dedicated to such a theme. One of them is The Gold River Project from Canadian studio Fairview Games. Here we play characters abandoned by a guide and forced to take part in a survival experiment.

In The Gold River Project we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The production puts at our disposal an open world encompassing a private nature reserve in the northwest of North America. We move on land on foot, while we travel across the numerous lakes by kayak.

As we progress, we learn more and more about the experiment in which we have come to participate. We see cameras watching our every move, we also get into complexes built for the purpose and discover various installations. The locations of selected elements of the game world, such as substations and points of supply and interest, are selected at random.

Exploration, crafting

Exploration plays a key role here, because through it we not only get to know the surroundings, but also gather resources that allow us to survive in an inhospitable environment. We are talking primarily about food, but also about raw materials for making items. The sources of the former are hunting and cultivation of the land, while the latter are obtained through the crafting system. Thanks to it, we can create equipment for our own use or for trade, and gradually expand the ob?z.

Combat

We have to be careful here, as there are predatory animals lurking among the dense vegetation. We fight them with white or firearms. The game allows both frontal attacks and stealth and silent elimination of targets.

Coop

The Gold River Project can be played solo or in cooperative mode over the Internet.
