The Lord of The Rings Online: Mines of Moria available on PC is the first official expansion to a popular MMORPG based on the works of the master of literary fantasy genre – J.R.R. Tolkien. Developed by Turbine Entertainment, the Mines of Moria add-on opens for the players the gate to the enormous underground complex of the legendary Moria, filled with mysterious halls, powerful beasts, and priceless treasures.

Mechanics

One does not simply enter the Mines of Moria established by the Dwarves centuries ago – Khazad-Dum is riddled with dangerous places (such as The Black Pit and The Rift) overrun by wild creatures serving Sauron and mysterious monsters called by many The Nameless Things. Most of the corridors remain unexplored just waiting for brave adventure seekers, who, encouraged by the riches and fame, will dare to face even the biggest threats and set off towards the darkest and most frightening dungeons. Only the most powerful heroes can stand a chance against the terrors of Moria – the deepest pits and ancient tunnels are filled with challenges so demanding that the developers decided to raise the level cap up to 60. Otherwise, even the best-organized teams would have a lot of trouble with surviving their journey through the Mines of Moria.

The game offers two new character classes that best fit the nature of the underground adventures – the Rune-Keeper and the Warden. Both their skills and combat potential can prove very useful when exploring the tunnels and fighting challenging battles with monsters perfectly adapted to the ever-present darkness. Should a player face difficulties with proceeding through the mines, he can always consider developing his character and preparing a proper set of gear – Mines of Moria for PC delivers new abilities, combat techniques, and class quests. Another novelty introduced by the expansion is the innovative system of crafting and improving the legendary items that level up along with their owners, and can even adopt a certain portion of the hero’s combat potential. All this results in the ability to create incredibly powerful artifacts that can match the Sting or the Glamdring. The most seasoned characters can try their strengths in the epic battles and team raids fought in the very heart of the greatest and most dangerous complex of underground tunnels in whole Middle-Earth.

Technical aspects

Since mid-2010, the game has switched to a free-to-play business model. This means that players can enjoy it for free, however, those who want to unlock the access to the so-called 'premium content' have to utilize the optional microtransactions system.
