Them's Fightin' Herds Description
Them's Fightin' Herds is an original brawler developed by independent studio Mane6 thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. Lauren Faust, the producer of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic series, and the creator of the Super Best Friends Forever series was responsible for the game's visuals.
Story
Them's Fightin' Herds takes place in the fantasy land of Foenum. The continent currently inhabited by our heroes - slightly anthropomorphic hoofed mammals such as cows, horses, and llamas - was ruled years ago by aggressive creatures called Predators. Despite the fact that the good Foenumians finally managed to drive the aggressors to an isolated, magical dimension, the idyll is slowly coming to an end - because the attackers found their way back. Each of the peoples of Foenum decided to send their greatest warriors to close the passage to their own dimension for good. However, only one of the champions can deserve the honor of performing the task.
Mechanics
The heart of gameplay in Them's Fightin' Herds are battles in two-dimensional arenas, in which the aformentioned mammals take part. The game uses an extensive but intuitive combat system based on four buttons. We perform weak, medium, heavy and magical attacks; the latter are related to the individual special skills of each player. In addition, after charging a special bar, we can perform powerful, improved attacks. The game also features the Juggle Decay system, which ensures that a combo doesn't drag on indefinitely - the longer we shower our opponent in hooves, the more damage-resistant they become.
Game modes
Them's Fightin' Herds can be played solo or in the company of a second player - multiplayer mode enables us to play on the Internet and on shared screen. Loners can try their hand not only story and training modes but also in a special survival variant of the game, in which we have to survive subsequent fights with enemies. Between battles we go to a special lobby, which we traverse, observing our character from a top-down perspective.
Technical aspects
The strength of Them's Fightin' Herds are the visuals - the title is based on the Z-Engine technology, which powers, among other things, the hit fighting game Skullgirls. It is worth mentioning that the pace of music accompanying the battles adapts to their intensity.
