TimeSplitters Rewind is a dedicated fan project that compiles the best elements of the sci-fi shooters originally created by Free Radical Design. Built using the Unreal Engine, the game features both story and multiplayer modes, along with various challenge modes and other content.
After the release of the game TimeSplitters: Future Perfect in March 2005, this series of first-person shooters (FPS) about time travel hit a dead end. Although there were two attempts to create a full-fledged fourth installment of the series, they ultimately failed. Years later, fans under the banner of Cinder Interactive decided to take matters into their own hands, creating the freely distributed project TimeSplitters Rewind described here.
At the time of its release, TimeSplitters Rewind was neither a classic remaster of any specific production under this banner, nor a compilation containing refreshed versions of all previously released games.
Instead, an independent team, at its peak consisting of over 200 people, prepared a sort of "best of" compilation, featuring the best (according to the creators) maps, modes, leagues, challenges, and story missions from the entire trilogy, enriched with new content. Nevertheless, at the debut of their work, the developers presented players with a vision of its further development, which was to "include extensive content covering all three installments of the series."
The launch version of this project offers:
Although TimeSplitters Rewind was initially being developed using CryEngine technology, the developers ultimately decided to move the entire project to the Unreal Engine.
