A third-person simulation-survival game, allowing us to play as a wolf living in the Yellowstone National Park. The gameplay in WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition is about exploring the area, fighting for our territory, hunting other animals, establishing a wolf pack and raising offspring.
Video games that allow us to experience the life of wild animals are rare. One of the productions filling this niche is WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, developed by the Eduweb studio. We are dealing with a simulation-survival game that allows us to become a wolf, created in collaboration with scientific advisors - biologists studying the titular species.
In WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game, we take control of a gray wolf and enter the territory of Yellowstone National Park. Our task is to survive and, if it is our will, to establish a pack and raise offspring.
We can freely explore the territory available to us during the game. First and foremost, we need to take care of food, which requires hunting skills from us. We acquire these skills by hunting for moose, mules, or even beavers.
The developers made an effort to ensure that the game properly simulates the behavior of wild animals. Representatives of individual species gather in herds and constantly migrate, males compete with each other for the attention of females, while females give birth and raise offspring.
It's not only wolves (with whom we compete for territory) that roam Yellowstone, but also other predators, such as bears, cougars, or coyotes, with whom we occasionally have to fight for prey.
The completion of all this is a full daily cycle, as well as changing seasons, which do not leave without an impact on the behavior of the park's residents.
If we decide to start a family, we will have to create a cozy and safe nest. For the first year, it will be our home allowing us to raise puppies, teaching them to hunt. The physical and personality traits of our offspring are determined by the genetic system implemented in the game.
Over time, our young ones gain independence, which allows the pack to return to a nomadic lifestyle. Although some young wolves may choose to stay with the family and help raise the next litter, others may separate from the pack and follow their own path.
At the end of each game we have to come to terms with the death of our wolf, but the game allows us to choose its successor, in whose skin we can continue the adventure.
We can play WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition alone or in cooperative mode over the Internet. We can jointly create a pack with other players and take care of maintaining the territory, as well as hunt.
For seasoned nature lovers, the Ironwolf mode awaits, where the death of our wolf is permanent.
