You begin the game with a choice of a house. You can choose from 4 houses known from the Harry Potter universe: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw. Your choice will determine which characters you'll be spending your time with.

You can gain or lose points based on your actions in class. If you'll complete the tasks diligently and be nice to professors, you'll receive additional points. Destroying items or being nasty to professors ends up in penalty points. Your friends will become angry at you if you lose house points.

The points are gathered at the house points interface - House points in Harry Potter The Hogwarts Mystery - Basic tips - Harry Potter: The Hogwarts Mystery Game Guide

The points are gathered at the house points interface. Depending on your score, you'll receive a reward at the end of the year:

  • 1st - 100 diamonds,
  • 2nd - 10 diamonds,
  • 3rd - 2000 coins,
  • 4th - 1000 coins.

Interestingly enough, it is best to land on the first or the third spot. 10 diamonds is a meagre reward considering that the cheapest thing bought for diamonds requires 100 of them.

How to acquire house points?

The game grades your performance during events through giving or deducting house points. Depending on the amount of points you'll amass during the year, you'll receive an adequate reward at the end of it.

Take part in classes. You can amass house points during lessons. All you have to do is to perform the tasks given to you by the teacher. If you performed a spell correctly, you'll receive around 10 points. If you fail, the professor can deduce 5 - 10 house points from the house's pool. Failing such an event will result in your companions voicing their discontent.

Help others. During the game you'll encounter many students. Maintaining good relations and helping others when needed will yield house points. If you are unfriendly towards others, the game will punish you by taking some of the points.

Be nice to professors. Don't even try harassing the teacher. In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, such behavior will result in deducing a lot of house points. You don't want to know how your friends will react if you continue to be rude to a teacher. Engage in teacher's tasks and apologise to them if you've failed something. Such behavior will yield additional house points.

Don't get caught. Sometimes, you may be caught red handed or when exploring an unfriendly territory. If such an action takes place, try to shift the blame to somebody else. If you openly admit to being against the law, the game will deduce a lot of points from the house's account.

Learn. Simply be happy with your place in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and continue to develop your character. You'll have the opportunity to learn a lot of spells and elixirs - use it. Your hero will continue to develop and acquire more experience points and a lot of house points.
