Civilization 6 Map Types Compared

One Reddit user has created illustrations to show the appearance of each map type in Sid Meier's Civilization 6. The images help to determine the actual shape of the terrain before the game begins.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. One of the players prepared illustrations showing archetypes of maps in Civilization VI;
  2. In the game we see only the name and a little speaking icon, so the screenshots enable us to better understand the shape of the area before the game starts;
  3. Another user has created a map of the game world that looks like those from a map chart.

When we start a new game in Sid Meier's Civilization VI, we can choose one of the maps (the number of available options increased as the game was developed). However, their descriptions and icons are quite laconic - they don't say much about their shape. A user of Reddit forum, known as DahakaMVl, took four hours to create illustrations of all the locations seen from the bird's eye view. The pictures show the general terrain outline (in some cases quite imaginative), as well as what part of it is occupied by water.

If you don't see something clearly, you will find a high resolution file (8600x100000 pixels) at this address. For comparison - below we see screenshots from the game, showing the aforementioned icons, chosen when we start the game. Admittedly, the comparison posted on Reddit enables us to better understand on which map we will play.

Civilization 6 - the randomness of the map, or Shuffle

A separate threads are random locations, i.e. those created using the Shuffle function. According to the analysis conducted by a Steam user, the algorithm that creates this type of locations is not completely random. Instead, the program uses fragments of other archetypes (40% Fractal, 30% Island Plates and 30% Continents).

Civilization 6 - an ambitious map by Internet user

Since we're already at the maps in Civilization 6 - below is an illustration created by a certain Internet user showing the world on which he played (he played as United States and achieved a cultural victory). The picture was created by imposing elements from real maps found on the net on the game screenshot (this way visualizations of mountains, rivers and other details were created). The creator combined all this into one map, using PaintNET.
