Subnautica will be available for free until December 27th, 2018.
As promised, Epic Games has started to distribute games for free in a regular manner. The first title, the action adventure game Subnautica by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, can now be assigned to your account free of charge via the Epic store. The special offer will last two weeks. After that time, another game will be made available for free - Super Meat Boy (the game can be assigned to your account free of charge between 28 December, 2018 and 10 January, 2019). Next free titles are going to appear regularly every two weeks until the end of 2019.
Subnautica is a submarine sandbox created by the independent Unknown Worlds Entertainment studio. In this game players take the role of a space colonizer, whose spaceship crashes on the almost completely covered by water planet 4546B. Gamer’s task is to survive in an unfavorable environment – searching for basic resources, crafting tools and defending against predators. The game debuted in December 2014 in Early Access service. In January (this year), production officially left the early access status and was released on December 4, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Epic Games does everything to threaten the Steam platform. To attract customers, Epic Games distributes games for free and in order to lure publishers reduces the margin to 12% (standard margin fee equals around 30%). More and more titles disappear from Steam platform to suddenly appear on the Epic Games platform as exclusive titles. It's time to see whether the new platform will be able to put an end to Valve's monopoly on the PC market, or the players' bond to Steam with key conviction that "the whole gaming library should be in one place" are going to prevail resulting in no changes on the current industry situation.
