Heroes of the Storm - Blizzard Has Ended Development

Blizzard has ended the development of Heroes of the Storm. However, the game will remain active.

Blizzard Entertainment studio has announced the end of development of the MOBA game Heroes of the Storm.

  1. It means that the game will receive no new content, including new items in the store.
  2. The game will still remain active - the servers will still be running, hero rotation will continue, and patches will be developed to fix bugs or correct gameplay balance as needed.
  3. The microtransations store will also remain active, it's just that its offer will no longer be expanded.
  4. Blizzard compares the state of Heroes of the Storm to the two installments of the Starcraft series.
  5. As a farewell, players will receive an Epic Arcane Lizard mount next week.

Last month, Heroes of the Storm celebrated its seventh birthday. Blizzard ignored this anniversary, which showed well the developer's attitude towards the game. So the decision to stop development should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Moreover, this is not a sudden change in approach. Back in 2018, Blizzard informed about the reduction of support for the game, announcing a slower pace of change and the discontinuation of promoting the production in e-sports competitions.

The game's fate is saddening, as it is a rare case of a beginner-friendly MOBA. Its developers has also done some interesting experiments, such as the Ogre, which must be controlled by two players at once, or the possibility of directing a squad of three Vikings from the unforgettable The Lost Vikings. In the end, however, the production was never able to compete with the leaders of the genre, such as Dota 2 or League of Legends.
