Jedi Knight Remastered Version 3.0 Brings Major Improvements [Update: 3.3 version is out]

Jedi Knight Remastered version 3.0 has been released. This fan remaster of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II moved to a new engine, gaining better performance and ultrawide resolution support.

The mod has been updated version 3.3. The most important change is a total refresh of most of the textures in the mod, done by including the work of modder named Vurt. How much of a difference this makes is shown by the comparison screenshots you can see below. .

Original message (May 5, 2023)

We have excellent news for fans of Star Wars. A new version of the excellent mod Jedi Knight Remastered has been released. True to its name, the project is an unofficial remaster of the iconic Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II from 1997.

The fresh edition is numbered 3.0. The previous release was 2.0.1 and such a big jump is justified by the scale of the changes. The creators changed the foundations of the project. They abandoned the previously used JKGFXMOD and instead Jedi Knight Remastered is now powered by the much more modern OpenJKDF2.

This change is beneficial. OpenJKDF2 This is because it recreates the game engine on C++. This made it possible to implement many improvements. As a result Jedi Knight Remastered version 3.0 finally got rid of microstutters, which could not be explained by what was happening on the screen (before, unfortunately, this was a common problem caused by JKGFXMOD). In addition, the creators could implement support for ultra widescreen resolutions.

The visual improvements offered by the mod are impressive, especially considering the fact that the game dates back to 1997.

Recall that Jedi Knight Remastered is a real gem that thoroughly refreshes virtually every aspect of the game. We get full compatibility with modern PCs and operating systems, much more detailed character and weapon models, as well as remastered textures with many times higher resolution. Lighting has also been improved, controls and gameplay have been enhanced, and most bugs have been fixed.

All this makes the old-school Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II completely transform, becoming a game much closer to modern standards, without losing any of its charm.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the author of the modification has also developed the Mysteries of the Sith Remastered mod, which is an analogous project for the game's DLC. This project for the time being is only available in version 2.0, but soon it too will be ported to the new engine and updated to the 3.0 edition.
