Cities: Skylines II turned out to be quite a disappointment. Colossal Order, the studio responsible for the project is currently working on improving the game, but some fans decided not to wait and took matters into their own hands. One of the best fruits of this is the mod called EconomyFixer.

  1. As the title suggests, the project aims to fix the economic layer of the game by changing many elements of the gameplay balance.
  2. The mod offers four difficulty levels, and even on the lowest one earning is quite a challenge. This is important, because the economy from the base game in the opinion of many fans (especially veterans of the first part) is far too easy.
  3. A game bug that caused us to earn money despite the fact that the market data should not allow it has also been fixed.
  4. The subsidy mechanics have been reworked. Now big money is received at the beginning of the game, and then subsidies are reduced as the city grows.
  5. Missing revenue and cost information for imports and exports was added to the budget screen.
  6. Demolition mechanics have also been improved. Destroying a building with it causes it to collapse and you have to wait until it is cleared before you can build there again. In addition, demolition costs now depend on the number of people evicted, the value of the land and the size of the buildings. These costs are added to the monthly budget list and scale with the selected difficulty level.

Installing the mod

First you need to install BepInExPack, a package that extends the ability to modify games on the Unity engine. Then you just need to download EconomyFixer and extract the archive with the mod to "...Skylines II/BepInEx/plugins".

All in all, the mod makes the economy more challenging and realistic, making the game more enjoyable for players looking for more challenges. The creator of the modification, TDW, is rapidly developing it and new versions are released every few days, introducing further improvements.

Recall that Cities: Skylines II launched in October, this year. Currently, the game is only available on PC. Versions for Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles will be released next year.
