20XX for PC and PS4 is a 2D platformer which looks similar to Mega Man titles. This is a debut-project for the small Batterystaple Games studio.

The production strives for the spirit of classic platformers. The developers tried to recreate the atmosphere and fun of the games from the past. Therefore, gameplay of 20XX is not very complicated, but still poses a considerable challenge. You are in control of nimble characters that can shoot with their mechanic hands. Gameplay consists in going through complicated levels which require skills to avoid obstacles, jump on platforms, and fight numerous enemies.

The implemented roguelike elements make 20XX stand out from the crowd. First of all, the game features permadeath. Only two elements remain: Soul Chips that can be spent on upgrades, and upgrades themselves (with them, you can progress further). Procedurally-generated levels are the next roguelike feature. Each time you begin the journey, you can expect enemies and traps to be in different places, so it is not possible plan your way – all you can do is learn about skills of regular opponents and bosses.

Game modes

20XX released on PC and PS4 does not only offer single player, but also local and online co-op for up to two plyers. Moreover, the title offers daily and weekly objectives.

Technical aspects

Not only the game’s mechanics resemble old-school platformers, but also the visuals. The production has the style of the games from the past, but it features better animations and supports HD.
