Children of Morta

A retro roguelike RPG action game, combining hackíníslash genre with narrative adventure game features, developed by Dead Mage studio. The titular Morta is a mountain guarded by many generations of the Bergson family. When a mysterious power defiles the source of life within the mountain, turning local creatures into bloodthirsty monsters, we must set on journey as subsequent members of the family to gather seeds of life and stop the spread of chaos. Gameplay in Children of Morta focuses on exploring procedurally generated levels, collecting items and arcade battles against monsters. This is complemented by a typical character progression system and equipment, with the addition of alchemy and crafting. Despite its old-school formula, the game stands out with its rich, multi-threaded plot and difficult moral choices that affect the story.

A dark fantasy cRPG developed by debuting studio Red Hook. The story is set in a dark, medieval-like universe. While exploring ruins of an old castle and its dungeons, you face off against forces of darkness that overwhelmed the land because of the reckless actions of its previous sovereign. As you delve into the depths, you discover the dark history of a family who brought the evil upon the world. The gameplay focuses on dungeon crawling - dungeons filled with traps and crawling with monsters that need to be dealt with during turn-based combat sequences. An original idea is the sanity indicator of your heroes. Each team member has different personality and reacts differently to what is happening around him/her. Therefore, while playing you should keep an eye on their well being and fear levels, alleviating their stress by drinking alcohol or brawling, if needed.

An action game with roguelike and metroidvania elements by indie French studio Motion Twin. During the game, you explore a grim castle, whose elements (such as chambers, cloisters, and sewers) are procedurally generated. Given the permadeath system, it means that each new gameplay is a fresh experience, during which you can discover new parts of the fortress. An important aspect of Dead Cells is combat, which is very difficult. To succeed you have to work out the patterns of the enemies' attacks and to get the protagonist to a high enough level. In combat you use melee and ranged weapons, as well as offensive and defensive magic. The game features pleasant 2D pixel-art visuals.

Playing the role of Remi, which together with the magical (and speaking) book Lore travels through this land, we face an army of ominous golems. An exploration game that eludes standard genre classification, developed by independent studio Chucklefish. Starbound combines elements of a 2D sandbox platformer and a strategy game. As you play, you explore and colonize other planets, provide for their inhabitants, construct useful items and vehicles, as well as fight hostile aliens. The game is set in a procedurally generated world,providing a great amount of freedom to the players. In addition to the single player mode, Starbound offers the ability to play with other people (via Intertnet) in competitive or cooperative modes. The game's retro graphics is characterized by a limited color palette and pixel-art stylistics.

A sandbox platform game by indie studio Re-Logic, sometimes called the 2D version of the popular Minecraft. There is no set goal; your task is basically to shape the randomly-generated world around you. At first you only have a few basic tools, which allow you to dig and find resources, chop wood, and create simple structures. As the game progresses, due to the extensive crafting system, you discover better tools, allowing you to create advanced materials and to fight monsters. There are many possibilities in the game, and the only restriction is your own imagination. Terraria features a single player mode, but you can join forces with other players, thus gaining precious allies, who can help you with the more challenging tasks.
Enriched with elements taken from time management games, roguelike production, in which we take control over the train crew traversing procedurally generated locations. Our main task here is to search for raw materials used to create rails, on which the constantly moving composition moves. Unrailed! is designed for multiplayer fun.
Darkest Dungeon II
The second installment of the cycle of grim RPGs, which was launched in 2016. The story told in Darkest Dungeon II focuses on the apocalypse and the hardships of a long, exhausting journey, while the gameplay is based on the mechanics known from the original. Players must, therefore, travel through gloomy locations, facing the dangers lurking there and taking care of the emotional state of the characters.

A humorous action-adventure game with strategy and cRPG features. The game was developed by Klei Entertainment, the creators of Shank and Mark of the Ninja. The main protagonist of Donít Starve is Wilson, a Victorian gentleman scientist. The insidious demon Maxwell sends Wilson to the wild where he must use all of his knowledge and intelligence to survive among dangerous beasts. The player is tasked with helping the protagonist in his fight against the nature and the monsters Ė he must build a place to hide, obtain food, start a fire, produce tools etc. As the game progresses, one can unlock new playable characters, each with unique abilities. The game has unusual 2D graphics with cartoonish style and music that is pleasant to the ear.

A fantasy roguelike RPG developed by Digital Sun Games, an independent Spanish studio. The action of Moonlighter takes place in a remote merchant town where the protagonist, Will, runs a store. His ambition is to become a true hero, but to make the dream come true, he has to gather adequate equipment and master a variety of useful abilities first. The productionís mechanics combine elements of a classical roguelike RPG and a trading card game. The gameplay puts emphasis on subsequent night journeys to dungeons where the protagonist faces more or less challenging enemies and gathers a myriad of valuable items and skills that bring him closer to achieving his goal. During the day, however, we have to manage and develop the heroís store, improve our knowledge of the wares we sell, and make increasingly bigger profits.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

An expanded version of a popular indie game that has been released in 2011 by Team Meat studio. Nicalis studio, a bit more experienced team, has been involved in refreshing of the title, in cooperation with original developers. When it comes to mechanics, the gameplay hasnít changed much, offering randomly-generated levels, traversed by the titular Isaac, who solves simple puzzles and eliminates monsters or much more powerful bosses. The main difference between the Flash-based original, is a completely new graphic engine, introducing new, improved visuals and a number of innovations that, as a result of technological limitations, hadnít made their way into the original. The developers included the whole base game and its two DLCs, and introduced a number of novelties. A local co-op mode has been incorporated in the game, allowing two players to take part in a joint playthrough on one screen.

In addition, we need to manage the crew and improve our unit. An additional attraction is the fact that every time you start a new game, the world is generated randomly.
Risk of Rain 2
A continuation of the well-received game that combines elements of platform games, RPGs, and roguelike productions. Both installments of the Risk of Rain series have been developed by the independent studio called Hopoo Games. In Risk of Rain 2, a player assumes the role of a character traversing the surface of an unknown distant planet with the objective of surviving in this unwelcoming environment and exploring locations filled with aggressive adversaries. The player observes the action from the third-person perspective and explores dangerous areas filled with traps, arcade challenges, and enemies to defeat. Risk of Rain 2 offers improved character development system and elaborate crafting mechanics. Unlike its predecessor that featured a retro feel, Risk of Rain 2 delivers 3D environments and colorful, somewhat comic-book-like visuals.

A unique mix of a classic dungeon crawler and a dynamic, two-dimensional shooter from the debuting American studio, Dodge Roll. We play as a hero seeking for the legendary weapon that can change the past of a distant planet. To achieve his goal, he must explore the eponymous ancient temple where many dangers and surprises await him. Featuring a top-down view, the game tasks us with exploration of randomly generated levels of the temple. We come across numerous enemies and bosses, as well various shops and friendly characters that will help us in our journey. The gameís combat system is based on classic twin-stick shooters, allowing us to use environmental objects as weapons in addition to an already vast selection of guns and gadgets.

The work of a one-man Canadian studio Brace Yourself Games in the form of a unique independent production that combines features of seemingly contrasting elements of a roguelike RPG and a dancing game. Crypt of the NecroDancer lets us play as a girl named Cadence, who sets on a journey to find her missing father. It leads her to the mysterious crypt ruled by an evil demon known as NecroDancer. It casts an unusual curse on the protagonist, making her heart always beat in rhythm of a music. As far as its mechanics go, NecroDancer is and old school action RPG. We explore procedurally generated dungeons and fight various monsters using weapons and magic. What makes the game unique is the fact that enemies move to the rhythm of music, and Cadence must adjust to their dance to defeat them. Each enemy she encounters has his unique style, and discovering the correct combination of moves is the key to success.
The Binding of Isaac

Created by the independent developer Team Meat, who also created Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac is a roguelike action shooter with RPG elements. In game, the player becomes Isaac and travels through successive randomly generated dungeons, similar to the ones in the first installments of The Legend of Zelda series. Each level is filled with scores of enemies, demanding boss fights, and classical puzzles. To solve the latter, the player needs to gather items such as coins, bombs, keys, or special cards. The game features an unique character progression system, instead of the experience gained strength of the character depends on special weapon upgrades or magic artifacts, which can be bought in shops or found in special chests and hidden rooms. Thanks to the ability to combine pieces equipment, as the story progress the main character becomes more powerful. The cartoonish visuals of the game are a call back to the simple action games from the 8-bit era.

For the King is an interesting hybrid that blends the elements of JRPGs, roguelikes, and strategy games, developed by the independent studio IronOak Games. The game takes place in a fantasy land engulfed by chaos. Heroes, led by the player, decide to defeat the evil forces. Both the world and the adventures within it are generated procedurally. Each time we start, we will feel as if we were playing a different, new game. Gameplay in For the King focuses on exploration (our party moves in turns through a map divided into hexagonal tiles, traveling not only on foot, but also by boat) and fighting with the encountered enemies. Our victory in battle depends on how, and when, we use our party members' abilities and on how good their equipment is. For the King offers a wide range of game modes, both single player and multiplayer. The game has good looking, colorful, and cartoonish visuals.
