9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek, released on PC, iOS, AND and WP, is a simple adventure game that belongs to the popular genre of HOPA (Hidden Objects Puzzle Adventure). The ambition of the developers from Tap It Games studio was to combine elements of a classic, detective adventure with puzzles like "hidden objects" and uncomplicated mini-games.

Plot

The game is set in 1950s America. The main character of the game is a private detective specializing in paranormal investigations, who is asked by her friend, reporter Helen Hunter, to come immediately to the seaside town of Serpent Creek. After reaching the place, it turns out that the girl has disappeared, and the inhabitants claim that they have never heard of a light-haired journalist.

The player's task is to find Helen, discover the secrets of Serpent Creek and stop a dangerous cult that wants to bring the mythical Snake God to the human world. During the game, you can visit 40 locations and meet 6 NPCs, each with their personality and history.

Mechanics

As befits a detective adventure game with a point & click interface, the basis of the gameplay is to explore the locations in search of clues and objects necessary to solve further puzzles. The creators have made sure that the tasks faced by the player are varied - from typical images with hidden objects, through various types of logical mini-games, to puzzles requiring manipulation of elements of the environment or appropriate use of items.

Depending on your preferences, you can choose one of the three levels of difficulty, which translates not only into the complexity of the puzzles but also the ability to use the hints and unlocking achievements.

Technical aspects

9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek runs on Spark Engine, created and developed by Artifex Mundi, the publisher of the title. The production is characterized by aesthetically produced 2D graphics with hand-drawn backgrounds and simple animations. The game also features a soundtrack and a professional voice-acting.
