Agents of Mayhem for PC, PS4 and XONE is another game from Volition, creators of Saints Row and Red Faction game series. It was published by Deep Silver (owners of franchises like Dead Island or Metro), a company that bought Volition during the 2013 sale of IPs and developers once owned by THQ.
The Plot
The plot focuses on the employees of M.A.Y.H.E.M. (Multinational Agency for Hunting Evil Masterminds), an organization that associates superagents from all over the world, who must face the supervilians from L.E.G.I.O.N. (League of Evil Gentlemen Intent on Obliterating Nations). They managed to take over almost the entire world. Only a group of agents led by Perephone Brimstone can defeat the evil Doctor Babylon who builds a powerful machine that can take down even M.A.Y.H.E.M.
Even though this is a completely new IP, the action of the game takes place in the same universe as the Saints Row games, sharing with it some of its plot elements, symbols, or world design.
Mechanics
Agents of Mayhem for PC, PS4 and XONE is a single player open world third-person shooter. The game takes place in Seul, South Korea, where we fight with enemies both on the ground and on rooftops. There are many titular agents, each of them having a different specialization, available for the players, i.e. Fortune uses two pistols, Hardtrack uses a harpoon and is great in mid-range combat, Hollywood, on the other hand, is a typical commando character that uses a machine rifle. Before we go on a mission, we create a three-person party of agents. We can switch freely between them as we play.
Technical Aspects
Volition created a completely new game engine for Agents of Mayhem for PC, PS4 and XONE. It can generate spectacular visual effects and at the same time keep the game running smoothly. The game has a characteristic comic book-inspired style.
