Wreckreation is an arcade sandbox racing game. It offers a 400-square-kilometer open world that can be modified and populated as you see fit, and then you can invite your friends to play on your terms.
Wreckreation is an "arcade" open-world racing game focusing on destruction. It was developed by Three Fields Entertainment, a studio best known for Dangerous Driving, whose founders previously co-created the Burnout series. The publisher is THQ Nordic.
The action takes place in MixWorld - an open map of 400 square kilometers, which features a variety of biomes and attractions prepared for exploration and frantic racing. At the same time, the world is susceptible to modification - players can affect the weather or traffic, as well as add their own objects (like ramps or moving obstacles), creating twisted routes, and then share their creations with other users. It also features empty plots that, once discovered, can be developed, such as erecting a police station to see more police cars on the roads.
The races are of an arcade nature, with speed, stunts and smashing counting. There is also no shortage of other activities, such as smashing various types of billboards. Importantly, players can organize challenges with their own rules and invite others to play together over the network or compete for the best results in the rankings.
The vehicles available in Wreckreation are also subject to personalization, among which there is a great variety - there are sports models, muscle cars, vans and even excavators. They can be changed, among other things, body or window paint, rims, tires, engine sounds and even brake lights. The cars featured in the game are not licensed.
Although Wreckreation offers plenty of network features for multiplayer play, you can also play solo.
Wreckreation was developed using Unreal Engine technology. The game also features diverse music, broken down into sixteen radio stations. While playing, you can also listen to songs played from your own Spotify Premium account.

To their credit, the developer is engaged in bug fixes and has published a roadmap of upcoming patches. However, these fixes may come too late to keep players engaged. For Burnout fans, wait for the next game, or until they fix the bugs in this one.

You’d have hoped that after ten years trying to recapture the brilliance of Burnout, Three Fields Entertainment would be further along than this. Wreckreation is better than anything they’ve done so far, true, but it’s still very far from the kind of racing game that anyone will want to play.

Is Wreckreation one of the better racing games of recent release? I honestly couldn’t tell you. Will it appeal to an avid fan of the genre? I’m certain it will. The one important question, though, is this – did I have fun? I did. But will I remember my time with the game in six months? Probably not.
