A third-person action RPG with an open world, inspired by Gothic and The Witcher series. Asterfel takes us to a mining island, where an ancient hostile deity has awakened. We begin as a castaway, completing quests for three different factions and gradually developing the protagonist.

Mysteria Studio is an independent development team from Germany, established in 2012. It is formed partially by former employees of CD Projekt RED and Piranha Bytes. The creators do not hide the main sources of inspiration for their debut work, an action RPG game titled Asterfel - it is similar in many ways to Gothic and The Witcher series.

In Asterfel we watch events from a third-person perspective (TPP).

Castaway against the ancient deity

The action of the game takes place on an island where the kingdom is conducting extensive mining operations in its magical mines. This led to the awakening of an ancient deity, causing monsters to roam this piece of land, and the dead began to rise from their graves.

During the game, we take on the role of a castaway who has to play his part in the further fate of the island. The adventure leads us through jungles, ancient ruins, or a city that is the beating heart of this area.

Game world, missions and factions

While exploring the open world of the game, we get to know its inhabitants and carry out quests that push the story forward. There are also side missions available. The game allows us to join one of three factions, namely the Crown Wardens who are the armed arm of the kingdom, the Kindred (rebels fighting for freedom for miners) and the Scholars (mages).

Fighting opponents

Combat plays an important role here and we must deal with both fantasy beasts and hostile people. The battles are dynamic, and depending on our choices during the character development process, we can use melee weapons (swords), ranged weapons (bows), or magic (based on runes) on the battlefield.
