Avadon: The Black Fortress for PC, AND and iOS is an old-school fantasy RPG inspired by the classics of the genre. It was developed by Spierweb Software, known to players thanks to the Avernum series.
In the game, we assume the role of a knight in service of a powerful sect, Avadon, which is seated in the eponymous Black Fortress. The main task is to protect the Alliance formed by five grand nations. To do so, we become a representative of one of four available classes: blade master (a counterpart of a classical warrior), sorceress, shaman, or the so-called shadow walker, which is rogue in other RPGs. During the adventure, the protagonist is joined by many different NPCs. As a result, we traverse the world in a 3-member party.
Starting out, we cannot modify statistics of the chosen hero. As we gain experience, the protagonist advances to higher levels and then we decide the direction of his development. We have such traits and skills as vitality, defense, or precise strikes at our disposal.
The gameplay is observed in the classical isometric view and takes place in real time. Once we encounter an enemy, it switches to turn-based mode and lets us issue orders to all party members, and then we have to wait for enemy reaction. Among our foes, we will see classical huge spiders, wolves, bandits as well as monsters that are characteristic to fantasy settings.
The graphics of Avadon: The Black Fortress for PC, AND and iOS references the RPG classics of the 90s, presenting quite average quality of animation and texture detail. Audio-wise, we have mostly noises of the wind and the sound of delivered blows.
