The main pros of the game

  • Nostalgic Value: The game serves as a sequel to the beloved film trilogy, capturing the essence and charm of the original movies. Fans of the series will appreciate the references and character portrayals.
  • Voice Acting: Christopher Lloyd reprises his role as Doc Brown, and the voice acting throughout is generally well-received, with A.J. Locascio providing a convincing performance as Marty McFly.
  • Engaging Story: The narrative is engaging and well-written, with a mix of humor and adventure that aligns with the tone of the films. The plot involves time travel and character development, making it enjoyable for players.
  • Hint System: The inclusion of a hint system helps players who may get stuck, allowing for a smoother gameplay experience without the frustration of being unable to progress.

The main cons of the game

  • Linear Gameplay: The game is criticized for its linear progression, lacking the branching paths and choices seen in later Telltale titles. This can make the experience feel restrictive for players seeking more agency.
  • Puzzle Difficulty: Many players found the puzzles to be too easy and straightforward, which might disappoint those looking for a challenge.
  • Technical Issues: Some users reported bugs, glitches, and awkward controls, particularly regarding character movement and camera angles, which detracted from the overall experience.
  • Outdated Graphics: While the cartoonish style is charming, some players noted that the graphics felt dated even for its release time.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Lack of Achievements: Players expressed disappointment over the absence of achievements, which are common in many modern games and add to the completionist aspect.
  • More Complex Puzzles: A desire for puzzles that require more thought and creativity, rather than straightforward solutions, was mentioned.
  • Expanded Locations: Users wished for more diverse environments to explore, as the game often revisits the same locations, which can feel repetitive.
  • Character Choices: Players noted the lack of meaningful choices and consequences, which are hallmarks of many successful narrative-driven games.

Summary

  • Overall, "Back to the Future: The Game" is a nostalgic journey for fans of the franchise, offering a charming storyline and engaging characters, but it falls short in some gameplay mechanics and depth compared to more recent Telltale titles.
