Release Date: cancelled
A third-person action adventure game. Battle of the Sith Lords was being developed by Red Fly Studio, but was ultimately cancelled by LucasArts in 2011. The project was also know under the name Star Wars: Maul. It was supposed to allow us to play as Darth Maul, combining gameplay elements from Batman: Arkham and Mass Effect series.
Battle of the Sith Lords, also known as Star Wars: Maul (working titles), was supposed to be an adventure action game, set in the Star Wars universe. The game was being developed by the Red Fly Studio team, which has in its portfolio titles such as Ghostbusters: The Video Game and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II for the Nintendo Wii console, as well as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows project. At the end of June 2011, however, the entire project was cancelled.
Battle of the Sith Lords was supposed to draw heavily from series like Batman: Arkham and Mass Effect. Watching the action from a third-person perspective (TPP), we were supposed to play as Darth Maul and his companion Darth Talon. The protagonists would also be accompanied by a droid displaying interface elements, as well as being able to scan the environment for dangers.
The adventure would lead us through various locations, among which there would be a jungle-covered planet or a spaceport. Our base camp would be located on an asteroid, and we would go there between subsequent expeditions.
Our tasks would include exploring a distant galaxy, engaging in conversations with independent characters, and completing quests. The game was also planned to include combat.
Although Darth Maul and his companion would easily handle lightsaber combat, the game would emphasize acting stealthily and instilling fear in opponents. Under stress, enemies would make mistakes, for example, by letting themselves be drawn into darkness or pushing themselves into laser blockades.
The story of Battle of the Sith Lords was a rather problematic element of this project. Ultimately, it was decided that the main character of the game would not be Darth Maul, known from the movie Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but his identically looking descendant. In this way, players were supposed to get the opportunity to see on the screen both this iconic character and Darth Talon, who lived almost two centuries later. Darth Krayt, leading an army of Siths, was supposed to appear as the main antagonist.

Darth Maul is a character who deserves a dedicated game set in the Star Wars universe. Not everyone today remembers that such a title was being developed and was to draw from the Batman: Arkham and Mass Effect series.
