In 2019, the game called Bee Simulator was released. As the title suggested, the work of the Polish team Varsav Game Studios allowed players to taste the life of a bee. This action-adventure game achieved such a large commercial success that over the following years, the developers expanded it with a number of DLCs. The Bee Simulator: The Hive described here is an extended version of this production, enriched with The Hive add-on.

Biggest new features

The biggest novelty introduced in Bee Simulator: The Hive is a semi-open location, inspired by New York's Central Park. • Technical Issues: Some players experienced problems with save files, particularly when transitioning from the original game, leading to frustrating gameplay experiences.
  • Basic Combat Mechanics: The combat system, especially during wasp encounters, was described as slow and repetitive, detracting from the overall enjoyment of the game.

  • Deeper Resource and Colony Management: Reviewers expressed a desire for more complex mechanics related to resource management and colony dynamics, which were largely absent in the hive-building aspect.
  • New Storylines or Adventures: Players wanted a fresh narrative or new locations to explore rather than a rehash of the original game’s story and mechanics.
  • Improved Tutorial and Guidance: Some users found the tutorial and help text to be poorly written, making it difficult to navigate the new features, especially in the hive-building mode.
  • Control Customization: A common complaint was the inability to rebind controls, which frustrated some players who wanted to adjust the control scheme to their preferences.

Summary

  • Overall, while Bee Simulator: The Hive has its moments of charm and educational value, it faces criticism for its lack of innovation and depth, particularly for returning players.
