Established in 1997, the Chinese company NetEase was mainly associated with online games for the first decades of its existence. In 2025 the company decided to make a significant turn towards narrative singleplayer titles, announcing Blood Message - an action adventure game with a third-person view, emphasizing down-to-earth and exciting narration.

Gameplay

The game features linear gameplay, featuring a plot straight out of a movie. While traveling through areas inspired by Eastern and Central Asia, we often engage in naturally looking, quite brutal hand-to-hand combat and use melee weapons. In addition to realistic battles, Blood Message includes elements of stealth and survival, as well as epic sequences, such as participating in sieges.

The goal of the heroes is to conquer (mainly on foot) a route of approximately 1500 kilometers, and the action takes place in medieval Asia. We have to traverse deadly dangerous deserts and other wild terrains or ruins, and along the way learn about early customs, culture and history of the Middle Kingdom.

Historical realities and plot

The action of Blood Message takes place in the year 848, during the declining period of the Chinese Tang Dynasty. After the uprising aimed at liberating from the domination of the Tibetan Empire, ten postal groups were sent to the capital, but only one - led by the monk Wuzhen - reached Chang'an. The game changes this chapter of history.

After the victory of the local uprising against the Tibetan occupation, a former soldier is chosen for the mission to deliver the news of the triumph to the capital. During the journey through the war-torn homeland, the messenger is accompanied by his rebellious teenage son.
