Bloody Spell is an action game with RPG elements from Elong Games. The title tries to fit into the gameplay formula used in Devil May Cry combined with titles from FromSoftware (creators of Sekiro or Dark Souls). The game is based on arcade hack'n'slash combat, but becomes more tactical when fighting bosses. As Yejin, a martial arts adept, we sets out in search of his sister Li, kidnapped by the mysterious Void Legion.

Plot

Bloody Spell takes us to a fantasy land inspired by ancient China. We take on the role of a young warrior Yejin, whoago began learning martial arts in the Wanfa Order together with his sister Li 10 years. However, the school is attacked by the mysterious Void Legion. We wake up in Legion prison without any moemry of what happened, but soon learn that the school has been destroyed, our master killed, and our beloved sister kidnapped to be sacrificed to bloodythirsty gods. There is nothing left for us to do but to regain our freedom, find our sister and take revenge.

Mechanics

Bloody Spell is an action game with RPG elements. The core of gameplay is a mixture of arcade and tactical combat against numerous opponents, interrupted by boss battles. Death is not hard to come by, and each one of them has consequences. This style of gameplay may bring to mind the titles developed by FromSoftware (Sekiro or Dark Souls), while the dynamic of battles resembles the games from the Devil May Cry series.

Fighting in Bloody Spell is dynamic and arcade. Depending on the weapon we are using, our fighting style differs slightly, and the same applies to our opponents. For example, enemies who have a shield, have a better chance of blocking our frontal attacks, but are slower; enemies with two daggers are fast and can instantly find themselves right next to us. In addition to the usual opponents, from time to time we also encounter bosses who are distinguished by their strength and skills. It is worth noting that our character is quite fragile. Life can be restored only after finding the right essence, and just a few blows in the right spot are enough to kill us. This means that the game is largely based on doding and use of special abilities.

Special abilities can be divided into 2 types - passive and active. The former take the form of stat bonuses, while the latter give us access to special moves. In Bloody Spell there's no level up mechanics. However, various containers and lood found on defeated enemies yield various types of amber, which are required to activate our powers.

The equipment in Bloody Spell is found similarly to amber - in containers and on defeated enemies. From time to time we also encounter monuments where we can buy additional items of equipment for in-game currency, which is Blood. The game, however, discourages us from amassing goods.

The game cannot be saved. Every time we die, we go to the cell where we started the game, and at the same time we lose all Blood the equipment we didn't had equipped at the time of death. Additionally, every time we start over, the layout of corridors, halls and opponents changes.

Combat is the main element of Bloody Spell, but not the only one. In the game we also come across simple mini games. We can throw a spear at mice; move a key between obstacles to open a chest; or play some traditional cups. From time to time we also encounter obstacles and traps - deadly pendulums or saws sticking out from the floor, which require appropriate coordination and timing to get past.

Game modes

Bloody Spell is a single player game.

Interesting facts

Bloody Spell wasn't developed with PC in mind. Zhongshan Subor is a popular (in China and in some African countries) manufacturer of consoles that were supposed to be an answer to the products from Nintendo. The latest project of the company was to be called Subor Z-Plus, and Bloody Spell was to be a launch title for this platform. However, the console never wen to sale and the team responsible for creating the device was dissolved.

The game received a paid DLC, which enables us to switch the gender of rou protagonist by equipping a special outfit.
