The vast majority of survival games have accustomed us to playing as people who primarily need food and drink to survive. Blossom: The Seed of Life from independent studio Pebbledust Games takes a different approach to this topic, as it allows you to steer a robot terraforming Mars.
In Blossom: The Seed of Life we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). As we play here as a machine, our primary resource is not food and water, but electricity. We need electricity not only to power a small robot, but also to drive the tools and machines we use. This makes energy management a key gameplay element here if we want to stay agile and ensure that we can progress.
The title character arrives on the Red Planet with the task of making it livable. Our protégé has to melt l?d and transform it into water, turn Martian dust into soil, then plant algae, and later - flowers and trees. Plants generate oxygen, which enriches the atmosphere, as evidenced by the sky gradually turning blue. Over time, our efforts lead to more complex organisms, such as insects, birds and other animals, being able to inhabit the various biomes.
It doesn't stop there, as we also accumulate resources along the way to expand outposts and produce useful equipment. As you progress, Blossom gains access to tools, machines, structures and drones that allow you to automate selected processes.
The game world has an open structure. Initially, we move through it on foot, but over time we gain access to rovers or flying machines. This allows us to venture farther and farther, discovering abandoned stations and wrecks, and even hitting orbital platforms. By visiting such facilities, we can learn more about what happened to Earth and earlier expeditions.
Interestingly, the game allows you to take your bases with you, as it were. By creating modular rovers, we can transport batteries, magazines, g?rk lasers and other essentials over long distances, combining them into convoys and erecting mobile or stationary outposts wherever we need them.
