Plot

Bootlegger's Mafia Racing Story is set in the 1930s America, during the time of Prohibition. Making alcohol trade illegal let famous gangsters flourish through illegal smuggling.

We play as John Hamerton, a desperate retired mechanic, becoming an alcohol smuggler to pay his debts and keep himself off the streets. He must avoid law enforcement while earning as much as possible.

Mechanics

Bootlegger's Mafia Racing Story is a third-person game, The main gameplay loop consists of transporting alcohol from point A to point B. We'll travel through various towns, cities and rural landscapes.

Our work's not all sunshine and rainbows. Streets and paths are winding and narrow, while the still primitive cars mean driving is rather challenging. The driving model is more arcadey than realistic, but it requires practice. We must also deal with the cops and not let them catch us red-handed. Often we'll be forced to avoid roadblocks and overcome police cars during intense chases.

As we progress through the game, we earn money we can spend to upgrade our car, increasing its speed, handling and damage resistance. Over time we also unlock new vehicles (ranging from trucks to racing cars), letting us take on more difficult missions.

Technical aspects

Bootlegger's Mafia Racing Story isn't particularly impressive graphics-wise. The visuals merely fulfill their purpose, though the cars are rather pretty. The game's atmospheric soundtrack was inspired by actual songs from the Prohibition era.
