Brief Battles is a party game produced by a small studio from Australia comprising two developes called Juicy Cupcake. The company was founded in 2012 but spent the first years of its activity on creating small games during numerous competitions. One of them was the demo called Melon Quest, which eventually evolved into the game described herein.
In Brief Battles players assume the role of funny characters fighting each other using... underwear.. However, this is not just some ordinary underwear because it has special powers - they can shoot fireballs or produce ice. At the beginning of the game players choose one of the six available heroes, who differ only in terms of their appearance. The panties can be acquired during the game. Armed with chosen piece of underwear players shoot various projectiles towards their opponent, or traditionally they try to jump on their heads. Gameplay is purely arcade and does not require special skills thanks to its uncomplicated controls. This means that pretty much everyone can enter the fight. However, veteran players have the advantage of knowing better the power properties and the maps themselves. These offer a variety of elements that allow players to tip the scales of victory to their advantage, e.g. ice crescents knocked off at the right time can fall on opponents' heads, ensuring swift victory. In total, developers have prepared more than 50 maps.
Brief Battles revolves mainly around the multiplayer mode for up to 4 players, however, one can also play on his or her own and practice their combat skills against the game's AI. There are several game modes to choose from. Classic Battle is a simple skirmish for everyone. In Hold the Gold, players try to wear their gold panties for as long as possible. In Underpants Collector one has to collect underwear appearing on the map.
Brief Battles features simple yet funny visuals that fit perfectly into the gameplay. Interestingly enough, although one can't see it at the first glance, the game is based on the powerful Unreal Engine 4 technology, known from the popular Fortnite: Battle Royale, among others.
