BrokenLore is a series of Japanese horror adventure games. The introduction to it was BrokenLore: Low, released in February 2025, and over the following months it was followed by other productions under this banner. One of them is BrokenLore: Unfollow, described here, which was developed by Serafini Productions, the studio developing the series.

Gameplay

In BrokenLore: Unfollow we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The production takes us to a nightmarish world overrun by terrifying creatures. Each monster we encounter symbolizes one of the traumas experienced by the main character in the past. In order to survive, we must avoid direct confrontations with them, and when we are spotted, there is usually nothing left to do but run away.

Digital Chumps: 7 / 10 by Ben Sheene

BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW admirably delves into the murky evils of topics like social media obsession, bullying, and overbearing parents. Enough genuine psychological scares and clever moments make up for predictable gameplay and unresolved plot threads.

Game8: 70 / 100 by Allisandra Reyes

UNFOLLOW is a competent entry in the BrokenLore franchise, delivering solid storytelling and atmosphere while struggling with gameplay and cohesion. It offers moments of genuine psychological complexity, but predictable mechanics, overused jump scares, and underdeveloped plot threads prevent it from being truly memorable. Fans of the series will find enough to engage with, but those looking for groundbreaking horror may find it uninspired.

Final Weapon: 3.5 / 5 by Saras Rajpal

BrokenLore: Unfollow is a short and sweet horror title all about the ills of social media and parasocial relationships. While it doesn't exactly introduce any bold new ideas and the frequency of jumpscares are a bit infuriating, the great portrayal of a theme that has been done to death, unique concepts in the narrative and gameplay, fun exploration, and replayability make it a great time for any fans of the horror genre.
