The team at stillalive studios gained worldwide recognition primarily through the games Bus Simulator 18 and Bus Simulator 21. For their next project dedicated to bus driving, developers from Innsbruck, Austria, have partnered with Saber Interactive. The result of this cooperation is the game Bus Bound.

Gameplay

Bus Bound takes us to the fictional American city of Emberville.

Simulated city

In Emberville, we will find both quiet areas and busy places full of intersections, requiring full concentration from drivers. The city is fully simulated, and street traffic is influenced by factors such as weather conditions and the daily cycle.

Buses

During the game, we take on the role of a bus driver. We can sit behind the wheel of one of these vehicles, travel the city streets and provide transport services to its residents. The game gives us access to licensed buses from American manufacturers, such as New Flyer Xcelsior 40ft CNG and Blue Bird Sigma.

Development of fleet and infrastructure

In addition to developing our fleet (which we can customize to individual preferences), as we progress we also improve the city's infrastructure, modernizing stops or unlocking new routes. This is not the end, because over time we also gain access to various passive bonuses. The icing on the cake is the growing favorability of passengers.

Thumb Culture: 3 / 5

As I mentioned earlier, I did enjoy Bus Bound for a time. Eventually, though, there was less and less for me to do besides heading out on the road and picking up passengers. Sure, it makes sense that that should be the main focus of a bus simulator, but I would have liked a more in-depth sim to keep me engaged. However, for the budget-friendly price of L24.99, there’s quite a lot of fun to be had. Depending on what you’d call fun, of course… It looks great, the performance is smooth throughout, and it’s just a pretty laid-back simulator that doesn’t overwhelm players with too much. Therefore, Bus Bound receives the Thumb Culture Silver Award!

WayTooManyGames: 6.5 / 10 by Dagmara Kottke

The greatest strength of Bus Bound lies in its relaxing and satisfying gameplay. Whether you’re enjoying the sight of happy passengers or the sound of their screams, it consistently delivers. At the same time, the driving model in the game lacks realism, wheel support is limited, and the visuals and animations feel dated. There’s also the question of content – for now, Bus Simulator 21 still offers the more complete package, which leaves room for further development of the newest game by Stillalive Studios.

Completexbox: 80 / 100

After extended time with Bus Bound on Xbox Series X, it’s clear that this is a game built around a very specific vision. It doesn’t try to be everything, and it doesn’t chase complexity for the sake of it. Instead, it focuses on creating a consistent, rewarding experience that builds over time. There are flaws—repetition, presentation issues, and technical hiccups—but they don’t define the experience. Because when everything comes together, when the rhythm settles in and the city begins to feel like your own, it delivers something that feels genuinely special. Not loud. Not flashy. But meaningful.
