Although over the years the survival horror genre has been evolving, not only catching up, but sometimes also setting industry standards, there is no shortage of gamers who believe that its golden era was in the era of the first PlayStation.

For this reason, developers regularly appear who try to refer in their works to such items as the first installments of the Silent Hill or Resident Evil series. Among them is Norbert Baranyi, an independent developer from Budapest, also known as BedTimeStories. Carnival Massacre, described here at the time of its release, was the largest of his projects.

Gameplay

In Carnival Massacre , we watch the action from a variety of "cinematic" shots. The game takes us to a cursed amusement park, where we end up, playing the role of a heroine looking for her missing sister. To find the girl, our protégée must face the dangers lurking here.

Fight against enemies

The gameplay does not differ from what we are accustomed to in the cult works of Capcom and Konami. While wandering around the amusement park, we face opponents, among whom we can find both the living dead and other monsters such as scary clowns and oversized insects. In addition to serial adversaries, we face bosses in the form of four park leaders.

We fight them using firearms equipped with laser sights, such as a pistol or a shotgun. However, ammunition is a scarce commodity here, so that sometimes running away is a better option than engaging in combat.

Solving puzzles and managing items

In addition, in order to push the plot forward, from time to time we have to solve puzzles. Puzzles involve interacting with elements of the environment, as well as collecting items and using them in certain ways. Speaking of objects - the heroine's pockets have limited capacity, so we are often forced to make difficult decisions about what to take with us and what to leave behind.
