Tormented Souls 2 is a sequel to a first-person survival horror adventure game, which came out in 2021 on the PC, PS5 and XSX/S, and in 2022 on the PS4, XOne and Switch. Like the first game, it was developed by the Chilean studio Dual Effect. It was published by pQube.

Plot

The protagonist of Tormented Souls 2 is Caroline Walker, a returning character from the first game. Her sister, Anna, for unknown reasons, has black eyes, coughs up blood and frequently blacks out. Conventional treatment can't help her, so Caroline turns to supernatural means instead.

She ends up in a South American town of Puerto Miller, founded centuries ago by the Ismuit tribe - a small, secluded religious group. Caroline soon discovers the horrors lurking in the town she must face to save her sister.

Tormented Souls 2 is the kind of horror game you like to see from independent developers. As a clear passion project that is willing to push back against “best practices” to maintain the creative vision, it’s here for people who have fond memories of the formative years of survival horror, while also looking very modern. It’s by no means perfect, but the clear enthusiasm that went into it – and the fact that it’s so atmospheric – makes it compelling.

DualShockers: 7.5 / 10 by Stephanie Watel

Like its predecessor, Tormented Souls 2 still struggles with storytelling and character elements that just don't quite hit the mark. While it doesn't go as deep as I would like, above all else, it still serves its grandest purpose with all the passion you could ask for.

Try Hard Guides: 9 / 10 by Erik Hodges

Tormented Souls 2 is classic horror gaming to its core and feels like it could have been one of the better classic titles of the ’90s and early 2000s. While it pays homage to an old-school formula, it still stands on its own, being an excellent modern horror game with a fantastic story and characters, and one that feels familiar and new all at the same time. I highly recommend giving this game a playthrough this Halloween season, just so long as you can handle those tank controls.
