Cartel Smash is the first game created by the independent, Krakow-based HJR Games studio. The production is inspired by classic tactical action games like Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines.

The action of the game was set in the 70s of the last century on the border of Venezuela and Colombia. The vast majority of the jungle is controlled by a ruthless drug cartel. An elite commando unit under the command of the player is sent to fight dangerous criminals.

The game offers only one-person campaign mode, which consists of several missions of varying degrees of difficulty. Depending on the scenario, the player directs the actions of one to three soldiers, and his task may be, for example, to liquidate a cocaine plantation, free hostages or destroy the transport of the drug. This is hindered by cartel members with, among other things, rifles and machine guns.

The game is played in real time, which requires from the player the ability to plan and coordinate actions, as well as the proper use of different types of weapons, with which the commandos are equipped (e.g. knives, grenades) and the use of various traps and lures on the opponent.

Cartel Smash is distinguished by its relatively simple but aesthetically pleasing graphic design. The events are shown from the third person's perspective and with the use of isometric projection.
