A first-person psychological horror from the indie Polish studio Yellow Smile. CH13: Rest Stop takes us to the beginning of the 2000s. We play as a man named Wojciech, struggling to fall asleep. His car ride through the forest turns into a very disturbing experience.
Zuzanna Zabielska is a Polish female developer who founded the independent studio Yellow Smile. For her debut project, she chose to prepare a psychological horror adventure game, set in Poland at the beginning of the 2000s. We're talking about the game CH13: Rest Stop, which brings to mind associations with Fears to Fathom and the Krypta FM projects.
In CH13: Rest Stop we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The main character of the game is Wojciech, a newly minted father, who hasn't been able to sleep through the night for months. During a long car ride through the forest, the protagonist begins to feel fatigue, and his nighttime journey back home quickly turns into a disturbing experience.
The game offers a linear adventure, which takes 30-60 minutes to complete. During the game, we traverse a forest road illuminated by the lights of our car. We can get out of the car and, lighting our way with a flashlight, go in search of phone signal or take a closer look at the objects we pass by on the road.
The graphic design of CH13: Rest Stop combines retro style (led by blocky character models) with contemporary visual effects. The environment is detailed, and dynamic lighting has also been implemented in the game.
