DarkMaus is a fantasy action RPG with platform game elements. The title was developed by Daniel Wright, who openly admits that the main inspiration for him was the Dark Souls series.
DarkMaus takes place in gloomy fantasy land, inhabited mainly by human rodents and other intelligent animals. The players control a lonely mouse warrior who travels through a corrupt dark world in search of anything worth saving. The whole campaign takes place on the island of Hazath, whose inhabitants turned into wild beasts.
In DarkMaus the action is observed from a camera placed high above the character's head, and the fun comes down mainly to exploring the world and fighting monsters. The combat system requires skill and is relatively slow paced. Thoughtless charges quickly end tragically here, so we need to carefully select the right weapon for specific enemies, carefully executes various attacks and learn different tactics, and efficient execution of dodges and blocks is often more important than offensive actions.
The game is very difficult and especially at the beginning deaths are extremely often. To survive, the player must master the secrets of the combat system and learn to properly exploit the weaknesses of the opponents. After the hero's death, a friendly ghost is summoned, who returns traces are tracks back to a bonfire, which is the point for saving our game, and then accompanies us on our journeys, serving us with help. After some time we can gain some ghostly allies.
DarkMaus offers a wide range of weapons, from swords to spears. There is also a wide choice of ranged attacks, for which we can use both standard weapons, including bows and crossbows, as well as spells like a fireball. The game features also a progression system designed to enable the creation of many different, but still effective specializations.
