Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – A Criminal Past is a story expansion for the 2016’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for PC, PS4 and XONE. It is a non-standalone add-on, which means that it requires having the vanilla game installed. Eidos Montreal, the team behind such titles as Thief and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, developed both productions.

Plot

A Criminal Past is a prequel to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided so it tells a story that takes place before the events of this game. The DLC shows one of the first missions that Adam Jensen took on for Task Force 29, the Interpol spec ops anti-terror unit.

Criminal Past is a great finale for Mankind Divided, and only makes the desire for more Deus Ex stronger. The ending is pretty open, and with faces new and old it does a great job of giving us something different while being faithful to the franchise.

Push Square: 7 / 10 by Stephen Tailby

A Criminal Past is a decent last hurrah for Mankind Divided. Its story is fine, but doesn't really add to what's come before. However, the Penthouse is a wonderfully designed and unique level that's well worth exploring for the half-dozen or so hours you're there. It also cleverly demotes your abilities, forcing you to change up your approach. It's a strong effort that tries a lot of new things, and while it's certainly not essential, a little more Deus Ex is always welcome.

PC Invasion: 7 / 10 by Peter Parrish

This hopefully isn't the last we'll see of Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex, but if it is then A Criminal Past at least serves as a compact summary of their tenure at the helm. Nothing too radical here, just a well constructed prison level for Adam Jensen to be let loose upon.
