Dicefolk is a cross between a turn-based strategy game and a roguelike. It was co-developed by indie teams Leap Game Studios and Tiny Ghoul, and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment.
Plot
Dicefolk is set in a fantasy world. We play as one of the titular beings able to control chimeras, creatures endowed with various abilities. The player must traverse the world, recruit chimeras and command them in combat against hostile creatures to restore order in the land. Throughout the game we also gather talismans, which let us learn more about the chimeras and the world.
Mechanics
Dicefolk makes use of top-down perspective. The gameplay revolves around turn-based combat. We fight hostile chimeras be deploying a team of our own, controlled through special dice. Chimeras differ in terms of skills and combat style, including agile but weak ones and powerful but slow ones. As we progress through the game we acquire more powerful chimeras, facing greater challenges.
The dice we use to control chimeras are covered with symbols of our choice, which are tied to attacking, defending and the creatures' move order. Not only can we control our own dice but also the move order of enemy forces; being able to control both sides of the conflict lets us employ various tactics and increase our chances of victory.
Technical aspects
Dicefolk makes use of a colorful, cartoonish, 2D artstyle.
