DiRT Showdown is a special installment of the racing games for PC, X360 and PS3 by Codemasters. The production abandons the simulation roots of the series in favor of arcade, spectacular, and crazier gameplay.

Mechanics

In DiRT Showdown, we sit behind the wheel of licenses and fictional vehicles to take part in a grand motorshow. The developers put emphasis on spectacular gameplay, arcade driving model, and impressive scenes. Omnipresent destruction is also an important part of the production. While playing, we have to fight for the best scores and survive against opponents that stop at nothing.

Showdown features many polished and varied tracks located in such locations as Colorado, London, San Francisco, Yokohama, and Michigan. Most of them have the form of closed arena with an audience which is supposed to intensify the atmosphere of a show and competition. In the game, there are three car types at our disposal: racing vehicles, trucks, and buggies. The artists made sure that every one of them gets damaged in collisions in a spectacular fashion.

DiRT / WRC Game Series

Series DiRT is the direct successor to the series Colin McRae Rally, launched in 1998 by Codemasters. When in 2004 the series' patron Colin McRae abandoned WRC racing in favor of the Dakar Rally and the X-Games series, the developers decided to change the direction of its development, enriching the game with off-road rallies and increasing the range of available vehicles to include off-road cars, trucks and rovers. The new game also received a significant name DiRT.

The main cons of the game

  • Repetitive Gameplay: Several reviews mentioned that the game can become monotonous over time, with repeated tracks and similar challenges.
  • AI Issues: The AI can be inconsistent, with reports of rubberbanding mechanics that frustrate players, especially during races.
  • Annoying Commentary: The in-game announcer received criticism for being overly repetitive and annoying, with no option to mute him.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Customization Options: Players expressed a desire for more vehicle customization, including visual upgrades and tuning options, which are minimal in the game.
  • More Tracks and Events: A common complaint was the lack of variety in tracks and events, with many feeling that the selection was limited and did not offer enough diversity.

Players are generally advised to purchase it on sale due to its limited content and active player base.
