Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - A Hero's Bonds is a action jRPG based on the manga entitled Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. The game was developed by DeNA studio and was published by Square Enix, the company taking care of the brand.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - A Hero's Bonds contains two story modes. In the first of them, entitled Dragon Tracks, we play as a warrior named Dai and take part in events presented in the manga. Fulfilling a promise made to his mentor, the protagonist faces the evil Hadlar and his henchmen. The second mode, Bonding Journey, allows us to play as a new character, in whose shoes we find ourselves in the mysterious world of Milladosia. The story told in this mode was supervised by the author of the original - Riku Sanjo.
In Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - A Hero's Bonds we play as two characters. While the main hero of Dragon Tracks mode is the title warrior named Dai, in Bonding Journey the main role is played by our own character - The Luminary Leader. The game allows you to customise your character's appearance and profession; you can become a warrior, a master of martial arts or a mage.
The driving force of the game are the tasks we perform. At the heart of the gameplay are dynamic battles, in which the key to success is the skillful use of a variety of attacks and making good use of the "Break" power; activated at the right time, it can change the course of many battles. Beginners can take advantage of the possibility to automatically resolve battles.
Each battle involves the protagonist and two companions, including characters known from the manga original, such as Popp, Maam and Leona. The longer we travel with a particular companion, the stronger our friendship becomes, thanks to which we gain access to special scenes over time. Those who don't appear here are present in the form of Soul Crystals - special items that provide various bonuses to the stats of the characters holding them, as well as granting them various unique abilities.
As we progress, we gain more and more equipment and improve those we already have; this applies to both weapons and armour. In addition, over time we gain more powerful skills, which allows us to face stronger opponents.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - A Hero's Bonds can be played solo or in cooperative mode for up to three players.
