Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO that hit early access in June 2025. Even before the premiere of version 1.0, Funcom's work received its first paid add-on. It is the Dune: Awakening - Lost Harvest DLC described here.

New features in the expansion

Dune: Awakening - Lost Harvest introduces a range of new features including story missions, vehicle, locations, building elements, and cosmetic additions.

Adventure on the Wreck of Mithra

The story from this add-on focuses on the fate of the crew of the spice harvester Mithra, which was shot down during transport. As a result its crew is waiting for help. We participate in a rescue mission, incidentally discovering one of the biggest threats to the Empire.

Vehicle and locations

In Dune: Awakening - Lost Harvest we can visit 3 imperial research stations, along the way gaining valuable loot, facing dangers, and uncovering secrets. Additionally, a previously unavailable vehicle, namely a rover, is waiting to be checked here.

Building elements, decorations, skins and gesture

The icing on the cake are 4 Dune building elements, as well as 5 base decorations, 2 armor skins and 4 weapon skins, and a bagpiper's gesture.

The main pros of the game

  • Atmosphere and Lore: Many players appreciate the atmosphere and lore of the Dune universe, with some praising the story and voice acting as highlights.
  • Cosmetic Upgrades: The DLC includes new cosmetic items, such as armor and weapon skins, which some players find visually appealing.
  • New Vehicle: The Treadwheel vehicle is described as fun to drive, even though its practical uses are limited.
  • Short Playtime: For some players, the short storyline (about 2-4 hours) might be seen as a quick distraction or an opportunity to engage with the game again.

The main cons of the game

  • Limited Content: Many reviews criticize the DLC for offering very little content for the price, with only a few hours of gameplay and minimal new features.
  • Repetitive Quests: The quest design is often described as boring and repetitive, mainly consisting of fetch quests with little challenge or engagement.
  • Underwhelming Building Set: The addition of only four new building pieces has been regarded as a joke, with many players feeling misled by the marketing.
  • Lack of Endgame Content: Players express frustration over the absence of meaningful endgame content, with many feeling the game is dying due to the focus on PvP and griefing.
  • Bugs and Performance Issues: Numerous reports highlight ongoing bugs and performance issues that detract from the overall experience.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • More Building Pieces: Players expected a more comprehensive building set rather than just four pieces, with many calling for additional content to be added in future updates.
  • Challenging Gameplay: There is a demand for more challenging quests and gameplay mechanics that cater to mid and endgame players, rather than just new players.
  • Endgame Content: Users are looking for more substantial endgame content, such as new areas to explore, more complex quests, and a better balance between PvE and PvP.
  • Self-Hosted Servers: Many players miss the ability to host their own servers, which was a feature that contributed to the success of similar games like Conan Exiles.
  • Gameplay Mechanics: Suggestions include the need for new gameplay mechanics that enhance the experience, such as better resource management systems or cooperative play options.

Summary

  • In summary, while "Dune: Awakening - Lost Harvest DLC" offers some enjoyable aspects, it is largely criticized for its lack of meaningful content and poor execution, leading to disappointment among existing players.
