A TPP action adventure game with RPG, stealth and survival elements. Ecumene Aztec is set in the 16th century Mesoamerica, having us play as an Aztec warrior, needing to choose whether we'll side with our people or support the conquistadors during the war.
Ecumene Aztec is an action-adventure game with additional stealth elements. The game was developed by the independent Polish studio Ecumene Games, initially known under the name Giantscraft.
The consultants who collaborated on the project were: Michal Golkowski, a Polish writer known for his series of books World in Blood (depicting the decline of the Aztec civilization), and also Osvaldo Alexis Zuniga Elizalde, a native speaker of the Nahuatl language. Elizalde is responsible for ensuring the consistency of various game elements with the actual Aztec culture.
In Ecumene Aztec we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).
We explore the city and the surrounding jungle in the game. We must complete quests for various characters standing on both sides of the barricade. The protagonist is strong and agile. It is very useful during exploration (he can climb elements of the environment) and also during fights with opponents.
It's worth remembering that engaging in dynamic fights is just one of the ways to deal with adversaries. The hero can also act quietly, sneaking behind enemies and attacking them by surprise (for example, using blowpipes) or relying on traps. We construct traps ourselves, making use of the crafting system.
Ecumene Aztec takes us on a journey to 16th-century Central America. Despite the fact that in 1521, the city of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec state, was burned down by the conquistadors under the command of Hernan Cortes, among the Aztec tribes there was no agreement, but betrayal, deceit and a struggle for power.
We take on the role of a young Aztec who managed to avoid being sacrificed. The surviving protagonist must choose whether to join the resistance movement trying to repel the invasion from Europe, or to side with the tribes aligning with the Spaniards, hoping that in this way they will be able to eliminate the priests making bloody human sacrifices.
The game's story draws heavily from history. The project was based on such sources as the Mendoza Codex, Borgia Codex, and The True History of the Conquest of New Spain.
