Exploration and investigating mysteries of abandoned places is a central theme in many productions from the survival horror genre. Among them is Empty Shell, an action adventure roguelite developed by the independent studio CC Arts.

Gameplay

In Empty Shell the action is viewed from a top-down perspective.

Journey through a gloomy industrial complex

During the game, we take on the role of volunteers tasked with investigating an industrial facility abandoned for decades, which hides terrifying secrets. As we explore locations shrouded in darkness, we solve puzzles, gather clues about the events that took place there, and face creatures lurking in the shadows.

Combat and equipment

We defend ourselves against enemies with the help of firearms and various combat gadgets. To survive, we must not only arm ourselves appropriately, but also skillfully manage our supplies. Due to the limited inventory capacity, this involves making difficult decisions about what to take with us and what to leave behind. As we progress, we develop our character and gather increasingly better equipment.

Permadeath

Death is permanent in the game, so if we fall in battle, we must start a new journey. We switch to a new volunteer and start again with randomly selected weaponry. The situation is further complicated by the fact that locations are procedurally generated, making the complex look slightly different each time.
