Ever Forward is the work of independent Pathea Games studio. After developing a sandbox RPG called My Time at Portia, Chinese developers decided to test themselves in the adventure game genre.
The heroine of Ever Forward is a girl named Maya. Lost in a world between dream and reality, she has to face the demons of the past and her own fears. This is the only way for Maya to discover the secrets of the place where she found herself.
In Ever Forward, the action is shown from the third-person perspective (TPP). During the game, we walk through both colorful and slightly sleepy locations, such as a sandy beach or grassy plain, as well as disturbing places full of angular objects and filled with futuristic technology. Exploring them, Maya collects fragments of her memories that provide her with access to new levels, and solves ingenious environmental puzzles.
Among the puzzles, we find both simple ones that require only insight, and slightly more complex ones using teleportation or variable gravity. In addition, Maya has to face skill challenges from time to time or to hide from the dangers lurking in front of it. It is worth remembering that many problems can be solved in more than one way.
The graphic design of the game Ever Forward was maintained in cartoon style. The bright colours in the idyllic outdoors contrast here with the subdued colours of futuristic objects, which is supposed to emphasize the abstract nature of the presented world.
